Great words as always, I think of this often as I hear leaders speak and act as to almost not disrupt our "great" quality of life. God forbid they utter a word that we should drive less these days! Just think what it would due to their pollsters and their constituents. I am happy you wrote this. Shortly after 911 and somewhere and always in the Iraq situation, Bush continually themes that we need to "go on as normal; shop;etc" and these activities like war will somehow not create a ripple in the oversconsumptious state most of us are accustomed to and almost demand. If only he would let the words come out of his mouth something to the affect of..."these are hard times and we are faced with difficult challenges, but challenges that we need to combat and meet. Thus as of today, a bill is being passed, deeming plastic bags may be made and used w/ restrictions for only XYZ purposes, real (not half assed meet me in the middle lobbyist bills) will be passed to make all light truck and car have a highway GPM of 50 by 2010, real capital will immediately be pumped into alternative energy and real jobs will be created, all homes must cut water consumption per capita 15% by 2010, and with the help of government programs or loans from private industry, make solar panels mandatory on X% of plain surface on all new development etc, etc, etc...
