<description>Ah, Rice. I think ancient cultures buried their dead with rice, as a dessicant, to dry out and preserve corpse. ( I just made that up).
A large portion of the world's poorest are nourished by rice, and not much else. Having been in Haiti, rice and beans was a staple, at every meal. The proportion of beans to rice was very low. More like a black bean gravy. In the orphanage there, the toddlers got maybe one medium sized bowl of rice/beans each day. Maybe some powdered milk, mixed with bad water. If really lucky. some peanut butter.
Anderson Cooper, of CNN, interviewed Angelina Jolie last night about the plight of refugees, world-wide, with Pakistan being the new surge. A cup of rice. Life or death. Blessings.
UNHCR takes donations to feed refugees world-wide.
Family Health Ministries, in Chapel Hill, takes donations and sponsors medical and construction missions to Haiti.
You won't have to worry about car keys, or cell phones. No hot water. No drinking water, except what is trucked in. No reliable electricity.
Go Haitian tonight, rice, black beans, a small piece of grilled tilapia, and fried plaintain.
Thanks for listening to my rant of love.
